THE THOUSAND AND ONE NIGHTS

This is the tale of a storyteller: Shahrazad, a girl who married King Shahryar. How did she happen to marry a king?

Well, this is how it all began:

King Shahryar was once married to a woman that was unfaithful to him during his absences. As a revenge, he killed her and all her lovers. From that time on, he had started to hate every woman in the world and because of this, he married and killed a new wife each day, until there were no more candidates.

It was when Shahrazad, the eldest daughter of the king’s vizier, imagined a plan to save herself and all the king’s future wives. She asked her father to give her in marriage to the king.

Each evening she used to tell her husband a different story, leaving it incomplete and promising to finish it the following night. The stories were so delightful and entertaining, and the king was so anxious to hear the end, that he felt unable to execute Shahrazad. At last, he fell in love with her, abandoned his cruel plan, and they could finally live their love happily ever after.
